Lucky for us, sight is only one of our 5 senses. So when seeing isn’t working for us, we can rely on some of our other sense to help us out. But since we are talking about seeing, let’s start with that.
Sight
You may not be able to see Jesus standing in front of you the way you see a man at the market standing in front of you. But you can see him in other ways. You can see the evidence of his presence in your life. Ask Jesus to do something for you. Something small but special. For example, ask him to give you a surprise encounter with someone. Ask him everyday for 7 days and see what happens. When you have a surprise encounter with someone you’ll have seen his presence and interest in your life. Some people have even seen Jesus come and speak to them in their dreams.
Hearing
Did you know that you can hear Jesus speaking to you? He speaks in many ways. He speaks through nature, through the Bible, he speaks quietly to our hearts and our minds by dropping little bits of inspiration. Some people have even heard his audible voice. Try asking him something. Say, “Jesus, what is your favorite thing about me?” And see what comes to mind. Listen for his voice all around you and see what you hear.
Touch
You can feel the tangible presence of Jesus around you. It often feels like tingling or goosebumps. Sometimes it feels like warmth or peace. If you want to feel Jesus presence, ask him to come and fill the room you are in with his spirit. Then wait and see what happens. You can also ask Jesus to come and give you a hug when you are feeling lonely or sad. He loves to bring comfort and peace. And he wants you to experience his love in tangible ways.
Taste
The Bible says that we can taste and see that the Lord is good. It also says that every good and perfect thing comes from Heaven where Jesus dwells. Have you ever had chocolate cake? Its tastes really good. Jesus created cocoa trees where chocolate comes from and sugar cane where sugar comes from. He also created our mouths, our tongues, our tastes buds and our brains ability to registered flavor. Maybe you don’t like chocolate. What do you like? Eat that and think about how amazing it is that we can taste and enjoy food and why we have that ability and where it came from. It came from Jesus. So you could taste and see that he is good.
Faith
If you aren’t interested in using your senses to experience Jesus and help you believe he is real, you can always try faith. Faith is believing in something that you don’t see. You can try believing in Jesus without seeing him. Just like the wind. You can’t see the wind, but you can feel it blowing across your skin. You can see it moving the branches of the trees. You can hear is rushing past you. Jesus is in that wind. If you want to try to believe in Jesus, tell him that. Tell him that you want to try to believe but that you need help. Ask him to help you overcome unbelief. Give him a chance to prove himself to you.
