FAQ ABOUT JESUS
Who was Jesus?
Like all of humanity, Jesus is a complex person with many sides and facets to who he was and is. Throw in the fact that he was not only fully human but is also fully God and now we have an even more interesting person to understand. Lets start by looking at the human qualities of Jesus during his lifetime.
Jesus was a first born son to very young and inexperienced parents. His birth wasn’t planned. It was a surprise and very unexpected. His birth was controversial and caused immediate division in his parents community and family. He was born into a working class and even possibly impoverished family. His father was a wood worker and carpenter and his mother was most likely not working outside the home. When he was born, he was immediately despised and hated and local government rulers tried to kill him. Very early in his life his family had to flee their country because of this violence and became refugees in a neighboring nation. They had to make this long journey on foot and Jesus would have spent his first few years of life moving around a lot and probably not having a stable home environment. Jesus was a middle eastern, Jewish boy and a minority growing up. He most likely had dark skin, dark textured hair and dark eyes. What we today would call a person of color. He always lived in places that were ruled or occupied by governments and powers that did not look like him, speak like him, think like him or know what his day to day life was really like. We can only imagine the brutal racism he must have encountered throughout his lifetime.
How can I believe in someone I don't see?
Lucky for us, sight is only one of our 5 senses. So when seeing isn’t working for us, we can rely on some of our other sense to help us out. But since we are talking about seeing, let’s start with that.
Sight. You may not be able to see Jesus standing in front of you the way you see a man at the market standing in front of you. But you can see him in other ways. You can see the evidence of his presence in your life. Ask Jesus to do something for you. Something small but special. For example, ask him to give you a surprise encounter with someone. Ask him everyday for 7 days and see what happens. When you have a surprise encounter with someone you’ll have seen his presence and interest in your life. Some people have even seen Jesus come and speak to them in their dreams.
Is there a God of a Supernatural power?
Absolutely! And the best part is that this supernatural power comes in the form of pure and unconditional love. Everything that God does is motivated by love and when we experience the supernatural power, its is always directing us to love.
Sometimes this is hard for us to understand because we live in a natural world and our minds aren’t always tuned into the supernatural. Or what some people would call the spiritual. God is spirit and is moving and dwelling in the spiritual and the natural. Thats why sometimes we can’t explain why we know something we shouldn’t know. Or we feel something may be wrong with a loved one without having talked to them. God’s spirit is communicating supernatural with our spirit to alert us.
Have you ever heard a mother say that she knew something wasn’t right with her child without being there? That’s God’s supernatural power at work showing us his love for us so we can care for those we love. Supernatural power also works in the form of creativity.
God gives creative healing power to people who love and believe in him so that they can demonstrate his love to others. Sometimes this power is used to heal sick bodies. Sometimes its used to give creative solutions to problems in our lives. Other times this supernatural power is used simply to let people know that they are seen and heard. That their innermost thoughts are not forgotten or unnoticed.
